Building Connections at Every School
Our goal is to have a SEPTA School Site Representative at every school in San Juan Unified School District.
School Site Representatives help create a strong connection between individual school communities and the Special Education Advocacy PTA of SJUSD (SEPTA). They help ensure families of students with IEPs and disabilities know about available resources, opportunities, events, and ways to become involved while also helping SEPTA understand the needs, concerns, and successes happening across our district.
Share SEPTA information, resources, meetings, and events with your school community.
Connect families of students with IEPs and disabilities with support and opportunities.
Bring your school’s needs, concerns, ideas, and successes to our districtwide SEPTA.
Promote inclusion, family engagement, educational rights, and meaningful collaboration.
Build stronger connections among families, educators, service providers, and community partners.
Help ensure every school and every special education community has a voice.
You do not need to be an expert in special education or special education law to serve as a School Site Representative. Our representatives are volunteers who care about students, families, inclusion, and educational opportunities.
SEPTA will provide representatives with guidance, resources, information, and opportunities to connect with representatives from other schools. Multiple representatives from the same school are welcome and encouraged.
We also ask School Site Representatives to become members of SEPTA so they can participate and vote on matters within our organization, and we encourage representatives to become involved with their school’s PTA or PTO when one exists.
Together, we can build a districtwide community where every school has a voice and every family feels informed, connected, supported, and empowered.
